Lesson Objective : Using a formula to add the value of 2 cells
All formula begins with a equals sign.
Operators in spreadsheets (+, -, *, /)
Learning Outcome : Download and open the spreadsheet file, The Recap Challenge
The Big Picture
What have we done? Used formula to add the value of two cells
What are we doing? We are going to use formula to add, subract, multiply and divide
What are we going? We will use spreadsheets to make lots of calculations
A spreadsheet program is made up of a large table, called a sheet.

Each cell has a cell reference. The cell reference is the column letter followed by the row number. The cell reference for the green cell below is B3.

Spreadsheet Operators : Multiplication and division is different from conventional Maths operators.
Addition (Plus): +
Subtraction (Minus): –
Multiplication (Times): *
Division (Divide By): /
How to find MS Excel on your computer. Select the windows button on the bottom left of the screen and search for Excel. Select the correct version.

Extra Task: Recap Challenge
Note : You may need to select Enable Editing

Instructions
Work out the answers to various calculations and if they are right, the cell will automatically turn green.
You can enter formulae into cells to help work out the answers.
All formulae must begin with an = (equals) sign
See example in E3;
=B3+D3 will add the numbers of the 2 cells together
If you finish early, go to level 2
Success Criteria
Success : I can complete a level of the Recap Challenge. I can add, subtract, multiply and divide
Super Success : I can complete 2 to 3 levels of the challenge
Extra Success : I can open a spreadsheet, enter and add numbers together
Extra Challenge – have a play
Open a blank spreadsheet and enter your own text and numbers. Use formula to add the value of 2 cells. Use this time to try things out. Don’t be afraid to make a mistake.
